On April 6, 1917, the United States under President Wilson entered the war to fight with the Allies. Troop trains stopped in Medford to pick up Grant countians going off to camp. For those who died in the war, the Pond Creek chapter of DAR erected a memorial stone in Pond Creek Cemetery upon which are inscribed these names:
